Puberty sucks, and nobody knows it better than 13-year-old Ernest Chin (Jeffrey Chyau). As he watches guests come and go, Ernest finds himself forever stuck at his family’s hourly-rate motel, where he divides his time between taking orders from his overbearing mom, cleaning up after whatever miscreants the motel may attract and longing for the girl of his dreams, 15-year-old Christine (Samantha Futerman, MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA). The White Silk Dress revolves around one remarkable woman’s determination to hold her family together. Vietnam’s top model Truong Ngo Ang stars as Dau, a servant girl whose only hopes for the future lie with hunchbacked servant Gu (Khanh Quoc Nguyen). Abandoned as a baby, Gu has nothing to his name besides the white silk dress he was found wrapped in, the white silk dress that he passes to Dau for their marriage. A white silk wedding dress represents tradition, purity, and sacrifice, and from the moment she puts it on, Dau is determined to dedicate her life to her family. As civil war begins to break out, the newlywed couple head south to start a new life. Gu gives birth to two daughters, and the family of four eke out a living in poverty conditions. To send her girls to school, Dau has no choice but to cut her white dress to make uniforms for them. But with the war edging south, their fragile lives are thrown into further turmoil.

Dubbed by some critics as the Asian American Boyz n the Hood, Juwan Chung’s second feature film BABY is undeniably a slice of urban ganglife type of film. The title character, Baby, is a motherless 11 year old boy who is taken under the wings of the gangsters next door in East Los Angeles during the 1990s. One dark evening ends with Baby shooting a rival gang member and landing him 7 years in juvenile hall. The adult Baby, played by newcomer David Huynh, re-enters society but has no real opportunities to change his life. The only father figure he really has is the gang ringleader Benny (Fedor Chin). The hardened and disillusioned Baby attempts to pick up the pieces of the adolescence he never had through the underbelly of Monterey Park and Alhambra. He is faced with conflicts as he tries to reconnect with his childhood best friend and his childhood sweetheart, both of whom seem to have grown up and moved on. Can Baby walk the straight and narrow path, or will he join his gang family once again?
